What to Expect When Getting Permanent Lighting Installed
Getting permanent outdoor lighting installed takes about 5-10 days from quote to finished install, with the actual installation completed in a single day for most homes. We know the process can feel unfamiliar if you have never done it before, so this guide walks you through every step — from your first contact with us through your first month enjoying the lights.
Getting a Quote
The process starts when you request a quote. Here is what we need from you and what to expect:
What We Need From You
- Your address. We use satellite imagery to get an initial estimate of your roofline footage and complexity before we even visit.
- Which areas you want lit. Full roofline? Just the front? Garage too? The more specific you are, the more accurate the initial quote.
- Your budget range (optional). If you have a budget in mind, sharing it helps us recommend the right package from the start.
What You Get Back
We respond within 24 hours (usually much faster) with an initial quote that includes:
- Estimated linear footage of your roofline
- Pricing for multiple package options so you can compare
- A clear explanation of what is included in each package
- Estimated installation timeline
There is zero pressure at this stage. We send you the numbers, you take your time, and you reach out when you are ready. No follow-up calls, no sales pressure. We believe a great product sells itself — and if permanent lighting is right for you, the quote will make that clear.
The Measurement Process
For most homes, we can provide an accurate quote using satellite imagery and your input. However, for complex rooflines or if you would like an in-person consultation, we will visit your home for precise measurements.
What Happens During a Measurement Visit
We walk around your entire home measuring the roofline with a laser distance meter. We note every corner, gable, dormer, and transition point. We identify the best location for the controller and power supply. We check for any access challenges and note the condition of your soffit and fascia. The visit typically takes 20-30 minutes.
Why Measurements Matter
Accurate measurements prevent surprises on installation day. We have seen competitors quote based on rough estimates, only to add charges during installation when the actual footage is higher. Our philosophy: the price we quote is the price you pay. Period. If our measurement comes in lower than the initial satellite estimate, you pay the lower price.
Choosing Your Package
Once you have your quote, the main decision is which package fits your needs. We always provide multiple options so you can make an informed choice. Here is what we typically recommend:
If You Mainly Want Holiday Colors
Our Value package ($16/ft) gives you full RGB color capability at the best price. The white light is serviceable but has a slight blue tint. If holidays and special occasions are your primary use case and you are budget-conscious, this is a great choice.
If You Want Everyday Beauty Plus Holidays
Our Premium package ($32/ft) is what we recommend most. The RGBWW LEDs produce gorgeous natural white light for everyday use — warm white that looks like expensive architectural lighting — plus full color capability for holidays and events. This is the system most of our customers choose.
If You Want the Absolute Best
Our Ultimate package ($38/ft) adds individually addressable LEDs and the 48V system for maximum brightness consistency. This is for customers who want pixel-level control, smooth animations, and the brightest possible output. If you love creating elaborate light shows, this is your system.
Once you choose your package and approve the quote, we schedule your installation. We will confirm a specific date and give you an estimated arrival time so you are not waiting around all day.
Installation Day: What Happens
Installation day is when the magic happens. Here is a detailed timeline of what a typical installation day looks like:
Arrival and Setup (8:00-8:30 AM)
Our crew arrives with all materials pre-cut based on your measurements. We do a quick walkthrough to confirm the plan, lay out protective coverings near landscaping, and set up equipment. We will introduce ourselves and answer any last-minute questions.
Channel Installation (8:30 AM-12:00 PM)
The bulk of the morning is spent mounting the aluminum channels along your roofline. This is methodical work — each section is custom-fitted, leveled, and secured. You will hear drilling and occasional cutting. We work systematically around the house, starting with the most visible areas.
LED Installation and Wiring (12:00-2:00 PM)
Once the channels are up, the LED strips go in and wiring is routed back to the controller location. This phase is quieter — mostly connecting and routing cables. You might see wires being run along the soffit, neatly tucked out of sight.
Controller Setup and Testing (2:00-3:00 PM)
The controller and power supply are installed and connected. We power everything on and test each section for proper operation. This is the exciting moment — you will see your lights come alive for the first time. We test every color, every zone, and every connection.
App Setup and Walkthrough (3:00-3:30 PM)
We help you download and set up the app, connect it to your system, and walk you through the features. We will show you how to change colors, set schedules, browse presets, and create custom scenes. We set up your first schedule (usually sunset on, midnight off) before we leave.
Cleanup and Final Walkthrough (3:30-4:00 PM)
We clean up everything — all scraps, packaging, and tools. Then we do a final walkthrough together. We will look at the installation from every angle, make sure you are happy with how everything looks, and answer any remaining questions. You get your warranty paperwork and our direct contact information.
Tips for installation day: Move vehicles away from the house so we have clear access. If you have dogs, keeping them inside or in a fenced area away from the work zone is helpful. You do not need to do anything to prepare your roofline — we handle everything.
Programming Your Lights
This is the fun part. Once your lights are installed, the app gives you complete control. Here is what we set up during installation and what you can explore on your own:
We Set Up for You
- App connected to your controller
- Daily schedule (sunset on, midnight off)
- Default everyday scene (usually warm white)
- Basic walkthrough of app features
- WiFi connection configured
You Can Explore
- Hundreds of preset holiday and event scenes
- Custom color creation for any occasion
- Animation and effect settings
- Zone-specific colors (front vs sides)
- Seasonal schedule adjustments
- Sharing scenes with other users
Most customers spend the first week playing with colors and scenes — it is genuinely fun to explore. By week two, most people have settled into their favorites: warm white for everyday, a few holiday presets bookmarked, and maybe a custom scene or two for special occasions.
Your First Month
Here is what the first month typically looks like for new permanent lighting customers:
Week 1: The Honeymoon Phase
You will change your lights constantly. Every evening is a new color. You will show every visitor. Your neighbors will ask about them. This is normal and expected — enjoy it. You will also probably take a dozen photos for Instagram.
Week 2: Finding Your Favorites
The novelty settles into genuine appreciation. You will find the 3-4 scenes you love most and start using them regularly. Most people land on a warm white for most evenings with occasional color changes for mood or events.
Week 3-4: The New Normal
Your lights become a natural part of your home — like they were always there. The schedule runs automatically. You change colors for specific occasions and events. Coming home to your lit-up house feels premium and welcoming every single night.
The most common feedback we hear at the one-month mark: “I wish we had done this sooner.” And the second most common: “My neighbor wants your number.”
Warranty and Support
When you invest in permanent lighting, you deserve to know you are covered. Here is what our warranty and support looks like:
Lifetime Warranty on Lights
Our LED modules are warranted for life. If an LED fails under normal use, we replace it at no charge. This covers manufacturing defects, premature failure, and color inconsistency. It does not cover physical damage from impacts or extreme events (falling tree branches, etc.).
Installation Warranty
Our workmanship is warranted for the full life of the system. If a connection comes loose, a wire fails, or any installation-related issue arises, we come back and fix it at no charge.
Ongoing Support
Need help with the app? Having trouble with a feature? We are always available by phone or text. We are a local Utah company — you are not calling a national support line. You are reaching the same team that installed your lights. We respond quickly because our reputation depends on it.
