How we checked

What the differences mean
Review count tells you more than the stars. Most companies here sit at 4.9 or 5.0. The counts run from 12 (Brightly Lighting) to about 1,400 (EverLights), and a long record is harder to build than a high average.
Published prices make quotes comparable. 2 companies publish a price per linear foot (Astoria Lighting Co and Brightly Lighting); others show example project totals, and the rest do not publish prices. A per-foot rate lets you check any quote against your own roofline length.
Warranty wording varies a lot. “Lifetime” can cover the bulbs only, the product but not the labor, or depend on who installed it. Ask what is covered, for how long, and who pays for the service visit.
The system decides future repairs. Dealers install a manufacturer’s product (Gemstone, Trimlight); others install their own. Brands don’t mix, so the system you pick is the one every future repair and add-on uses.
Questions to ask any installer
- What is your installed price per linear foot, and how many feet did you measure on my home?
- Which system do you install, and who makes the replacement parts?
- What does the warranty cover (bulbs, controller, labor) and for how many years?
- Who comes out if a section stops working, and what does a service visit cost?
